The move is aimed at curbing the risk of infection. FFP2 masks have a filter performance of 95%. The FFP2 abbreviation denotes Filtering Facepiece and can absorb 95% of particles, dust, and harmful aerosols in the air.

How do you Recognize an FFP2 Mask?

To tell that a mask is FFP2 certified, look for the following information on the product label:

• CE mark
• Classification: FFP2
• Standard: EN 149-2001 A1: 2009
• Note on usability: NO

The mask also needs to contain a four-digit number which denotes the certification body. It can be CE 2933.

Are FFP2 Masks Reusable?

FFP2 masks are denoted NR which means Not Reusable. Most of the FFP2 masks are single-use, and washing isn’t recommended. SARS-Cov-2, the virus causing COVID-19, can survive on an FFP2 surface for seven days. This means the only time you can reuse the mask is after the seven days have elapsed. In the meantime, dry the mask in an open room.
